Congenital corneal staphyloma: clinical, radiological, and pathological correlation.

چکیده
A 2-year-old child was referred because of a prominent blind left eye with an opaque cornea. Although extraocular extension of a retinoblastoma was an initial diagnostic possibility, computed tomography (CT) showed only a large globe with a corneal staphyloma. Because of the cosmetically unacceptable appearance the involved eye was enucleated. The clinical, CT, and histopathological features of congenital corneal staphyloma are discussed, as well as the possible pathogenic mechanisms.

Congenital anterior staphyloma associated with Peters’ anomaly and aphakia in a Holstein calf
A Holstein calf was born with a large protruding right eye and a central corneal opacity. Enucleation was the first choice of treatment. The calf had a good prognosis and was raised for milking purposes. Macroscopically, the enucleated eye was characterized by the protruded cornea, adherence of the iris to the central posterior cornea and aphakia. Microscopically, central corneal thickening and...

BACKGROUND Congenital microphthalmia (OMIM: 309700) may occur in isolation or in association with a variety of systemic malformations. Isolated microphthalmia may be inherited as an autosomal dominant, an autosomal recessive, or an X linked trait. METHODS Based on a whole genome linkage analysis, in a six generation consanguineous family with autosomal recessive inheritance, the first locus f...

Examination of the left eye revealed a keratinized and ectatic cornea bulging 9 mm anteriorly (Fig. 1). The right eye had a chorioretinal coloboma. Due ...
متن کاملHistopathological Features in a Case of Peters' Anomaly with Acquired Corneal Staphyloma
We report a case of corneal staphyloma histologically diagnosed as caused by Peters' anomaly. A 62-year-old male had a protruding opaque vascularized cornea that began to bulge from six months ago in the right eye. Since his right eye was blind and he wanted us to remove the eyeball for cosmetic improvement, we enucleated the affected eye. The enucleated tissue was fixed in formalin and embedde...
